Though letters can be an integral part of your success, we encourage using online tools to maximize your fundraising efforts. Using your personal web page, friends and family can donate directly to you online. But we're happy to accept cash and checks, too. Keep reading for an example letter you might send to your potential donors.
Contact people from your email list, address book, holiday card list, alumni list, church organization directory or your neighborhood association list. The most crucial thing to remember is to include a return envelope with your name and address. Also, past participants have found that writing a short personal note on their mass-produced letters has had an impact on responses.

Date Dear (Name of sponsor), On [DATE], I will join thousands of others in a movement to end multiple sclerosis by participating in Walk MS 2013. When you make a gift to the National MS Society, you support research and local services to those affected with this unpredictable disease. [PERSONAL CONNECTION] I have a personal stake in this particular event. My dad has MS. Not only do I want to help him, but also the other people diagnosed with MS who live in the Upper Midwest Chapter area. MS is a disease that affects the central nervous system. Some symptoms of MS may include loss of balance, impaired vision and hearing, fatigue, muscle weakness and, in some, paralysis. Even simple everyday living skills become increasingly difficult. Everyone is affected differently by these symptoms. My goal is to raise at least $1,000 this year. Please help me reach that goal with your gift. Your donation is tax deductible. If you wish, you may mail all or part of your payment amount today in the self-addressed stamped envelope enclosed with this letter.
